Welcome to Cordale Cottages



Cordale Self Catering Cottages are situated in the Hemel-en-Aarde valley half way between Hermanus and Caledon in the Walker Bay/Overberg Area. Hermanus and Caledon are equi-distant, approximately 20 minutes or 18 km away and Cape Town +/-1hr10 minutes.

There are two fully equipped self-catering houses available: A farm cottage
and a Cape Dutch Style farm house.

Longwood Cottage:

Babilonstoring Mountain (Babylon's Tower mountain) We have named this cottage Longwood Cottage, after the Manor House (Longwood), where Napoleon was incarcerated on St Helena Island. The movie Monsieur N was filmed on our farm and some of building materials from the set have been used in our renovations. There are two vineyards below the main residence. Pinot Noir & Shiraz


Longwood Cottage:



(Sleeps minimum 2 and maximum 6 guests)

3 bedrooms,1 double room and 2 rooms with twin beds,1 bathroom.

All the rooms are equipped with hairdryers and hot water bottles.
The hot water runs on electricity and gas so no cold showers in winter!!

There is a study,voorkamer/lounge which is equipped with a Jet Master fireplace and an open plan kitchen, living and dining area which opens onto a wide mountain facing stoep.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a 4 plate gas hob, oven, microwave kettle and double toaster.

There is a pretty garden surrounding the cottage which is fully fenced.
The braai facilities are portable and wood is provided at an additional cost.

Garden furniture and an umbrella are provided for outside dining.
Undercover parking is also provided.

All the rooms have views of the surrounding mountains and vineyards.
The cottage is situated below the Babilonstoring Mountains, next to a long band of woodland and on the edge of a pristine indigenous fynbos area.
The red room has twin beds with crisp white cotton linen. This room is mountain facing with views up to the Babilonstoring mountains.

The green room has twin beds with crisp white cotton linen. This room has a view of the surrounding wheatfields and up towards the vineyards beyond.

The lounge has a Jet Master fireplace, comfortable furniture, and can seat 6 people. Mountain facing with a door opening out onto the patio. The kitchen & dining area are open plan flowing onto the stoep. Appliances include:- a fridge, microwave oven, 4 slice toaster, kettle and a new 4-plate gas stove and oven. The kitchen is fully equipped. The dining area has an 8-seater table and chairs. There is also an antique Queen Anne stove. Crisp white linen and towels are provided. If your stay is longer than a week, we can provide fresh linen and housekeeping. The stoep is mountain facing , wide and long with spectacular views.
Country lane in front of the guest cottage. The movie Monsieur N (starring Richard E Grant), about Napoleons life on St Helena island, was filmed on our farm. The green door comes from the film set. We removed a window and replaced it with a door. The cottage is situated at the foot of the Babilonstoring mountains. There is a spacious open plan kitchen/ living/dining room area which opens up onto a wide wrap around stoep/ verandah.
The kitchen has a new gas stove/oven/ 6 plate hob. A washing machine and tumble dryer are also provided.
Large indoor Jet Master fire place in the lounge and a built in outside braai(barbeque) area outside.

The Homestead has sweeping views of the Babilonstoring mountains, vineyards, riverine woodland and surrounding countryside.

Wood is provided at an additional cost.

Garden furniture and umbrella also provided for outside dining.
There is an outside parking area.

The Surrounding Area:


Longwood Cottage and The Homestead are situated along the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley Wine Route. Next door are Ataraxia, Creation, Mount Babylon and Jakob’s Vineyard Wineries. They have developed a reputation for excellence with noble cultivars such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay,Pinot Noir etc. The cool maritime climate and wonderful gravelly, clay rich soils provide a favorable “terroir” for the vines.

There are spectacular views of the Babilonstoring and Kleinrivier mountain ranges aswell as rural farm scenes. Walking in this landscape does wonders for the soul. The surrounding Walker Bay and Overberg area has much to offer in the form of pristine beaches, whale watching, birding ,photography, hiking, restaurants,art galleries etc.

There is a profusion of flora and fauna(of the Cape Floral Kingdom), with exceptionally high bird populations. Raptors, migratory birds such as the European stork, Blue cranes, geese, ducks and a myriad of smaller species.

The sweeping views, tranquility, silence, stars, pastures and lush mountains will transport you to a stress free state in minutes.
